Nancy Long began her appointment as the AAUP’s new deputy executive director in November. In this role, Long will support executive director Julie Schmid in advancing the AAUP’s mission and priorities set by the national Council. In collaboration with Council members, department directors, and staff, she will help to lead the ongoing implementation of two key priorities: the Association’s affiliation with the American Federation of Teachers and the Association’s racial equity initiative.
Long joined the AAUP’s Legal Department in 2011 as associate counsel. Her legal work encompassed organizational restructuring, AAUP Foundation compliance, the AAUP’s amicus brief program, state laws on faculty handbooks, vendor contracts, and internal COVID-19 protocols. She previously served as executive director of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia and had an independent legal practice.
