AAUP Congratulates Faculty, Administration of College of Southern Nevada for Reaching Agreement

After three and a half years of intense negotiations, the AAUP faculty bargaining unit at the College of Southern Nevada--part of the Nevada Faculty Alliance--has ratified its first contract. Eighty-three percent of the chapter's voting members voted in favor of the agreement, and the contract is now pending before the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.

Upon the successful conclusion of negotiations between the Nevada Faculty Alliance with the CSN administration, Rudy Fichtenbaum, president of the American Association of University Professors, released the following statement in support of the AAUP chapter’s hard-fought contract.

On behalf of the AAUP, I want to congratulate the faculty and administration at the College of Southern Nevada for reaching a tentative agreement on their first contract. The agreement represents an important step forward for the College of Southern Nevada and for the entire system of higher education in Nevada. We have recently learned that the membership of the CSN chapter has ratified the agreement by an overwhelming majority.

This accomplishment did not come easily. The bargaining process spanned nearly three and a half years. At times, it seemed that trust had broken down between the parties and hope for an agreement was faint. But both sides persisted. This contract is the result of their hard work, and we hope it is the beginning of a long and productive collective bargaining relationship at the College of Southern Nevada.

We also commend the Nevada Faculty Alliance for their support of collective bargaining, and we continue to stand in solidarity with our CSN colleagues as they move forward with the implementation of the new agreement.
