We're excited to announce that the University of Vermont is the site of this year's program, to be held from July 6 to July 9.
Registration has closed, but you can access your existing registration or see the agenda here.
There's a reason Summer Institute is our most popular program. We bring in organizers, researchers, seasoned campaigners, and issue experts to build your skills as an advocate for AAUP principles, collective bargaining, and higher education in a four-day workshop series where academic activists develop their skills in organizing, bargaining, defending shared governance, and more. Our hope is that you’ll leave with stronger movement connections and new skills for the next academic year.
This year’s sessions include:
-
Legislative Interference Across the Country
-
Creating Racially Equitable Spaces: Experiences of Black Women in Academia
-
Bargaining the Redbook
-
Faculty Handbooks as Enforceable Contracts
-
Basics of Healthcare Bargaining
-
What are Academic Freedom and Tenure?
-
Round Table Discussion for Faculty at HBCUs and Scholars of Color
-
Creating a Game Plan for Your Financial Data
-
Title IX: Current and Future Issues
-
Building Effective Bargaining Surveys, Platforms, and Narratives
-
Strike Prep
This year, registration is free for AAUP and AFT members; the cost is $1,200 for non-members. Attendees are responsible for the cost of their own accomodations; there will be an option to stay on campus in the UVM dorms or off-campus at the nearby DoubleTree, where AAUP will have a room block. Included in registration is breakfast on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as lunch on Friday and Saturday.
Check out the full program of sessions and events here.
There will also be an optional dinner cruise and plenty of time in the program for social events, informal networking, and exploring our beautiful host city by Lake Champlain.
