"Academic freedom” was still a new idea when John Dewey, Arthur O. Lovejoy, and other prominent scholars organized the American Association of University Professors in 1915. Thanks to the AAUP, academic freedom is now recognized as the fundamental principle of our profession. Despite this acceptance, academic freedom remains vulnerable.
Now, we invite you to join us as we reflect on the history of the AAUP, celebrate our accomplishments, and plan to protect our core values of academic freedom and shared governance.
The AAUP’s Annual Conference on the State of Higher Education includes panel presentations, plenary speakers, lobbying, centennial celebrations, and the annual business meetings of the AAUP.
