06.05.2015 | AAUP Censures Four, Removes Censure from One

Censure by the AAUP informs the academic community that the administration of an institution has not adhered to generally recognized principles of academic freedom and tenure. With these actions, fifty-six institutions are currently on the censure list.

Barbara Hopkins, professor of economics  at Wright State University, has been selected as the 2015 recipient of the AAUP’s Georgina M. Smith Award. The award will be presented at the June 13 Awards Luncheon.

The Brown Award is given to American college or university administrators or trustees “in recognition of an outstanding contribution to shared governance." This award will be presented at the AAUP's Award luncheon on Saturday, June 13.

Both institutions were found to have violated AAUP-supported standards.

In a mail-in vote, affiliated faculty voted 184-3 to ratify a new contract. The new collectively bargained contract includes up to a 30% increase in some faculty’s pay, doubles professional development funding awards, and provides better job security.
