Coalition Protests Ideological Exclusion

The AAUP has joined with the American Civil Liberties Union and the PEN America Center to urge the US government to act immediately to grant a visa to British citizen Kerim Yildiz, a leading London-based human rights advocate for the Kurdish people, who has been waiting for more than a year and a half for a visa for travel to the United States to speak at Harvard, the ACLU, and two prominent foundations.

We have repeatedly protested the practice of ideological exclusion, in which our government denies entry to the United States on the basis on individuals' political views. Ideological exclusion infringes on the First Amendment rights of Americans who would like to hear the views of these individuals and engage them in debate.
